Question 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My magazine has a similar audience to “KERRANG” as the target audience has the same class and fits to the same stereotype.

The main thing that makes my magazine represent the audience is the fact that the colours used fit in which the music it represents; the electric blue, black and white have relevance to it, the electric blue is seen as a “scene” colour, which is useful as the scene kids are targeted as part as my magazines target audience, the black represents “rock” the main genre that feeds my magazine where as the scene kid music comes into it as a sub genre, back on the subject of black, it attracts “emos”, “Goths”, “rockers” and “metal lovers”, which gives me a larger target audience. The use of white simply creates a contrast from the black making it more noticeable.

The images I have used are would you would call a “typical” band photo, all members have a fashioned style influenced by the music they represent, which is similarly how the audience would fashion themselves. Which isn’t hugely expensive stuff but alternative styled clothing ranges affordable to the working class. My magazine is targeted at a wide range of social classes but mainly ABC1C2.

Another point about the bands photo is that it lures in different ages, the band members in the photo are all of the 16-18 years old age group, which aspires to most teenagers interested in the music as younger teenagers look to them as role models whereas teenagers of a similar or greater age would appreciate their music.

Linking into the teenaged idea the vocabulary and layout used fits them perfectly, there’s no literate vocabulary used just simple informal text to create the connection between the magazine and its audience, and by creating the sense of the people within the magazine are talking directly the audience. And the layout is simple so there’s no confusion created and it’s easy to follow and understand hence keeping the audience happy and interested.
